About Divan
I was born into a family of hunting enthusiasts in Namibia, and my late grandpa, Alan Gibson Chapman, set the bar very high in the 1930s. He was a famous hunter and supplied numerous museums, including the Field Museum in Chicago, with his impressive hunting achievements. One of his notable accomplishments was hunting a Giant sable, endemic to Angola, that measured over 64 inches and is still on display today.
My passion for big game hunting started at a young age when I accompanied my father on hunting trips around our family ranch. These experiences shaped my childhood in unforgettable ways. After completing my schooling in 2007, I decided to pursue a career in the profession of big game hunting and embarked on an apprenticeship in Botswana.
Under the guidance of legendary professional hunter Arthur Vickerman, I honed my skills and gained invaluable experience in dangerous game hunting. Botswana, being the epicenter of elephant hunting in Africa at the time, provided me with extraordinary opportunities to hunt numerous elephants. It was a privilege and a defining moment in my career.
In 2012, following the shutdown of trophy hunting in Botswana, I returned to Namibia, my home country, and conducted safaris across the nation. Six years later, I ventured into the famous and breathtaking ‘Caprivi Strip’ in northern Namibia. For the following six years, I explored different concessions in this area, including the renowned Bwabwata East National Park. Bwabwata stands out as one of the finest areas I have encountered, offering a vast array of huntable game, untamed wilderness, and mesmerizing scenery.
Divan Safaris is the culmination of a lifelong journey, shaped by a rich family heritage and a deep love for the art of hunting. It is an honor to share my expertise and offer unforgettable safari experiences to fellow adventurers.
This is really where I developed my love of photography – my way of sharing two things to people far and wide. Firstly, the wonder of what I experienced each day in my ‘office.’ And secondly went down, my way of paying tribute to the magnificent trophy we had just hunted. Out of Respect.
Today I’m based on our family ranch in the east of Namibia. Fortunate to have done a full circle, returning with more experience. This is where I hunt most of my plains game these days.
With a huge passion for true wilderness and adventure, I will always hunt those wide, free areas – whether it is kudu in the Kalahari or tracking elephant and buffalo in the famous Caprivi. Our goal is to offer hunters from all around the world a true once-in-a-lifetime hunting experience customised to fit your needs.
