Divan safaris will send the documents needed to obtain a gun permit for Botswana. We recommend using a company in SA like riflepermits.com to get through OR Tambo more swiftly.
Temporary Import Export Permit Requirements
- A good clear copy of the owner’s passport
- A copy of the Firearm license
For USA citizens the Customs 4457 Declaration form (dated and stamped) - A copy of the export permit for the firearm (for African countries/Canada)
- Gun make, Caliber, serial number and number of rounds – maximum a 100 rounds per gun only (fill in on your safari information form)
- A formal letter from the gun owner giving Divan Safaris permission to obtain the permit on behalf of the guest. (example letter attached)

Rifle Preparations
- 375 H&H is the minimum requirement for dangerous game. When hunting elephant a well constructed solid bullet is necessary.

Namibia Travel Info
Namibia, land of contrast and by far the most friendly tourist destination. Namibia is a vast country, with a landscape that is both beautiful and diverse. From the towering red sand dunes of Sossusvlei, bushveld savannahs to the wetlands of the famous Caprivi makes Namibia one of Africa’s gems.
Namibia’s annual trophy season:
- Opens every year 1st of February
- Closes on 30th November
- Best time to hunt, is in the dry season (May to July – Winter months)
- Temperatures in winter will be on average 22-28°C
- Warmer months October, November, February, March and April temperatures will be on average 31-40°C
Temporary Import Export Permit Requirements
Post arrival the team at Divan Safaris will send you an invitation letter with all necessary info which you will carry with you on arrival. After you have cleared customs, myself or one of the team members will greet you and then escort you to the rifle check area. The Namibian police will check your rifle serial number and license on which they will issue you with a temporary import permit.
Bowhunting for plains game is permitted but not for dangerous game.
What to bring on your hunting safari?

- 3 pairs of cammo or olive green hunting pants and shirts (long sleeve or short sleeve)

- A warm, rugged hunting jacket and vest
- Sunglasses and a hat
- Sunscreen or sunblock
- Leisure wear and shoes (for the evenings and around camp)
Rifle Preparations
- Rifle,we recommend 270 cal. or larger 308, 30-06, 7mm, 300, 375. For dangerous game 375 H&H and bigger.
- Ammunition, 80 rounds, soft points and in the case of elephant please use solids.
