Namibia’s grand spiral horned also known as the gray ghost, the kudu.
Hunting the greater kudu is probably on most hunter lists of animals when coming to Africa. We are very fortunate to have a very healthy free range kudu population and with our area being more than 60 000 acres of pure wilderness the kudu quality is second to none.
Best time to hunt for a giant kudu is from May to the end of July as this is the start and end of the rut season and kudu bulls are in search of females to breed with.
Kudu bulls love thick bush to hide and will come out late afternoon and early morning and will retreat to cover as soon as it starts to get hot. A good and respected kudu trophy will be anything from 52 inch to over 60 inches depending on age and wear and tear. Hunting kudu is an early morning and late afternoon affair. We use some elevated areas to glass for bulls hiding in thick cover and sometimes tracking them.
When hunting kudu you will need a well constructed soft bullet that will hold together ranging from calibres 270 win mag to 375 H&H.
